JITOTM35: Deja Vu Again

This one may seem eerily familiar: it's deja vu again. Those uncanny moments where you'd swear you've been there before are endlessly fascinating, especially because no one really understands what exactly is going on in the mind to cause them. Recent research featuring a blind subject may shed some light on the subject, but then.... haven't we heard that before somewhere?

You may need to listen twice to this episode of JITOTM, Deja Vu Again.

Hey Guys,

Pardon my ramblings, I just woke up, and thought I ought to report my bizarre Deja Vu experience before it dissipates into the fog of memory... I was asleep, dreaming an unusual dream about a recent stay at the in-laws house. (Unfortunately, it was not a lucid dream...) The story of the dream is irrelevant, but at one point, my mother in-law says to me, out of the blue, "I think your neighbor is sick". It had no context in the dream, but, of course, I did not question it at the time. Before long, the alarm went off. The first words out of her mouth: "I think our neighbor is sick". Instant Deja Vu... I asked her if she had told me that earlier (because I know how "real-world" audio stimuli like to manifest themselves in dreams) but she claims she had not. Just an unusual occurrence I thought I'd share. Thanks for the great podcast!

Hey again,

Sorry, that first one came out wrong. After the alarm went off, it was my wife speaking to me. She said "I think our neighbor is sick".

Hey there, I have had many occurances with both Deja Vu itself as well as the one where you think it's Deja Vu but it's actually from a dream. But there was one particular instance I had that really, I can't find anyway to explain it. It was like Deja Vu, except it wasn't.

I was walking home from school, nothing extrodinary or weird happened during the day, and when I reached about the second house from mine suddenly things started looking wierd. I looked across the street and my mind was projecting a different house and yard than the one I was looking at. It looked like one of those little cottage type houses you might see in the english countryside or in the alps. (white with a pointed roof and the crossing dark wooden beams) It felt like I had seen it before, but it also felt like I had not. (which I didn't) After about 10 seconds it went away, but it was just so wierd.

Do you guys have any idea what might have happened?
